Before Micro-Needling Treatment

Before you undergo any cosmetic treatment, a consultation may be needed to ensure you are suitable for treatment.  A consultation informs the client to discontinue any skin care such as Retin-a or Hydroquinone or to discuss any contraindications to the treatment.

If you are using Retin A, Retinols, Vitamin A cream or other medical grade skin care, discontinue for 3-5 days prior to treatment. It is important that you wear a sunscreen daily and use the appropriate post procedure products.

During micro-needling Treatment

Before a medical micro-needling treatment, a topical anesthetic is usually applied to minimize any discomfort. Then the device will be glided over the skin to create evenly spaced puncture wounds. The length of the needles on the device will vary depending on how deep into the skin the needles need to penetrate – generally, the deeper the penetration, the more dramatic results you will see. Treatment can take anywhere between 10-60 minutes depending on the area you are having treated.

what to expect for Recovery

After a Micro-needling treatment, your skin will usually be slightly pink and you may experience some mild bleeding and bruising depending on the length of the needle used during your treatment.  No sunscreen OR makeup for 12 hours following treatment. No swimming, exercise or strenuous activity for the first 24 hours post treatment.

The downtime with this treatment is very quick and you should have recovered between 24-72 hours. A series of 2-5 treatments is usually recommended to achieve maximum results and as the results rely on kick-starting your body’s own collagen production; it can take 4-8 weeks before you start to fully see the benefits. It is also often advised to use cosmeceutical grade skincare at home to enhance your results. Microneedling aids in the reduction of skin ailments such as acne scarring, stretch marks, fine lines, wrinkles, hyperpigmentation (excessive coloring of the skin) and hypopigmentation (a lack of color.)
